This talk was given last October to a group of Christadelphians as part of a series on Jeremiah. Jeremiah may have been sent to the children of Israel 2000 years ago to warn them of the impending invasion by the Babylonians, but it is just as relevant to us now. The world is becoming more and more anti-religion, men standing up in their own strength to reject the creator of the universe. Nations who were founded on the law of Moses and drifting further away from their foundations and creating their own justice and legal systems that exclude religion. We are in a world that rejects God and his ways, therefore the words of Jeremiah are exhortation for us in our day. (You can also download this talk as a pdf)
Before we look at Lazarus and his family, let us first establish the broader context: which can be summed up in the parable of the Vineyard (Mark 12). The “vineyard of Yahweh of Armies is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant”, planted in the land and protected from the animal like nations surrounding it (Isa 5). The nation was not ready for the Father to dwell in their midst, his vineyard was “let out to husbandmen”, who initially, were the priesthood who were to minister unto the vine and nurture it to maturity. This is a bible class talk that I wrote for the 4th of April, reproduced here for anyone who may find it useful.
Our subject this evening is Daniel 12. The climax of the life of Daniel – one greatly beloved – when he is blessed to see a vision of: the resurrection from the dead, the salvation of his people. and the suppressing of the great apostate river and the bounding of it’s overflowing flood waters. And to Daniel one of the greatest moments of his life as Yahweh gives him that comforting answer of peace, that he will surly stand again in the resurrection to dwell in the the land of promise, in his own portion, in the inheritance of his fathers. In the last post we looked at the throne and the exalting of the saint body to the political rule of the future age. This time we finish our study with a more detailed look at the High priest of our calling who occupies that throne, and the prophetic reason for this vision!
The train or Skirt
The train or skirt filled the temple. This word is used exclusively in two contexts in scripture.
The skirt of Israel lifted up as the skirt of a harlot (Lam 1:9, Jer 13:22,26 and Nah 3:5)
The rim of the robe of the ephod of the High Priest (Exo 28:33-34, 39:24-26)
This draws our minds to the great contrast between the leaders of the nation at the time and our lord. He is the faithful one the Amen, holy and true are his words. The false leaders of the time spoke smooth things, and committed fornication with the false doctrines and “gods” of the nations around.
Exo 28:33 And beneath upon the hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, round about the hem thereof; and bells of gold between them round about: 34 A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about. 35 And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before Yahweh, and when he cometh out, that he die not.
The word for pomegranate is the word rimon רמון, the same as the place Rimon, in Zechariah 14, “Gevah to Rimon”. This word again comes from the word high, ram רמ, of av’ram אברם.
